Ironcology has always aimed to help improve access to cancer care, by providing free hotel vouchers, gas cards, and meal cards to patients receiving cancer treatment throughout central Appalachia. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many of the available free or discounted services provided through public and other private transportation, overnight stays at the Hope Lodge, and many other supporting businesses have needed to close, so we have more patients than ever struggling to get their cancer treatments completed. Cancer patients are among those considered most vulnerable to coronavirus, but because cancer can be and is often a bigger threat to our lives, treatments must continue.
